La Cascada de Colores, a mandatory stop during your holiday on La Palma.
Every trip needs a break to discover and breathe fresh air in a natural environment. So, if you are planning a trip to La Palma, you must visit La Cascada de Colores in La Caldera de Taburiente, which is the heart of the La Palma National Park.
The National Park is shaped by walls over 1,000 meters high and peaks reaching almost 2,500 meters. From here you can observe one of the clearest skies on the planet, according to National Geographic. And at its heart you will discover one of the most impressive waterfalls in Spain.
Just 40 minutes by car from our hotel, you can reach the starting point for the hiking route to the brightly colored waterfall. On this you can find two options. On one side, you can start the route from El Mirador de los Brecitos to El Barranco de las Angustias or you can choose the second option and start your route at the car park on the latter, taking the reverse and shorter path.
La Cascada de Colores is an artificial structure built in the 1960s to collect the water from La Caldera and use it as a water resource. Nowadays, a fountain of intense ochre, yellow and brown colours flows from this waterfall thanks to the ferruginous waters full of minerals that come from El Barranco de Rivaceras.
The green colors add a touch of vegetation that climbs up the walls of the waterfall. The colors of the place depend on the time of the year due to the water flow. During the drier seasons the tones are much more muted, while during the rainy months the colors are more intense.
